University of Tennessee Gardening Classes- Mike Payne

Mike Payne has been teaching beginning and newcomer gardening classes for the University of Tennessee’s Extension Service. He teaches 18 different horticultural subjects for the University. The classes can vary a little but normally they are soils & fertilization, turf grasses, Edible landscapes (Herbs), Beginning Landscape Design, trees & shrubs, Perennials and Annuals, Attracting Wildlife and Beginning Vegetables  A starter class and helps people new to the Chattanooga Valley and Beginning Gardeners get a head start. About 30 % of the people attending the classes go on to take the Master Gardener classes (15 weeks). The Beginning & Newcomer Classes has won an International award for being Innovative and the perfect public educational program.

2023 AGC Annual Meeting- S.I.R Award

In a proud moment for us, Paris Cornelison spoke of her dad, and Royce Cornelison spoke of his son as they presented Nic Cornelison with the S.I.R.(Skill, Integrity, and Reasonability) award on behalf of AGC of America. Royce enjoyed seeing his son take the business to new heights and Paris looks to her dad for inspiration and aspires to walk in his footsteps.

 

Hard Hat Girls & Women- Paris & Royce

Paris Cornelison, the President of Hard Hatted Women & Girls of Jackson County,  AL spoke with her grandfather and CEO, Royce Cornelison. Paris and Royce frequently go speak to women and girls about their stories joining construction and how important it is for females to join the trades and how it could impact their lives in a positive way. Women are a vital part of the construction industry and are needed to broaden the way of thinking in the industry. We are excited to see young women grow their presence in the industry and experienced women take charge in their jobs.

UTC Construction Competition- Nic & Mike Brown

Nic Cornelison and Mike Brown spoke to the University of Tennessee Construction Competition students about a competition bid. The students traveled to Peach Tree City, Georgia to compete against schools from across the country. Mike and Nic talked to the students about planning for the bid and how to be prepared.

 

Construction Career Center Grand Opening- Nic

The Construction Career Center is the result of a strong commitment to helping our industry and the people of Chattanooga. Nic Cornelison, working together with Mayor Coppinger, Mayor Kelly, Leslie Gower, Ken Hayes and many other wonderful partners, has committed to increasing opportunities for the people of our community to enjoy a rewarding career in construction.

Teachers of Tennessee- Nic & Royce

Nic and Royce Cornelison led a of group teachers from across the state of Tennessee to several of our active job sites. They spoke about the importance of workforce development and what the students need to learn in school to help them in the trades.

EPCOT Business/Industry Day- Royce, Jordan & Eli

Every year we participate in Jackson County’s EPCOT School Business/ Industry Day. This event is crucial for influencing the workforce of tomorrow by educating students on the opportunities available to them in the Northeast Alabama region. The purpose of the expo is to create awareness about career options among student and educators as well as to help businesses and industries find skilled workforce needed to sustain and grow.

SkillsUSA Tennessee- Royce & Nic

At the SkillsUSA Tennessee Annual State Leadership and Skills Conference Royce and Nic Cornelison judge a construction competition. At this competition they judge the craftsmanship and leadership of the students. It is a great way to get students involved and a great learning experience for them.

 

Girls Can Do it!- Paris

Paris Cornelison spoke to girls in middle school about her journey joining and being in construction. They also did activities like brick laying so they could get a feel for the trades. We value the trades, and we would like to see more young boys and girls to view the trades as an option for their career paths.  

Home Builders - Jordan

Jordan Cornelison was honored by being selected as President of the Home Builders Association of Greater Chattanooga for 3 years.  Here he is accepting this honor.  We are grateful for the ability to participate with the community.

 

Jackson County Schools- Royce

Royce Cornelison visits multiple Jackson County, AL schools each year to speak to students in high school about construction careers.  It is vital for our industry to attract young adults and show them the places construction can take them. Royce talks to them about his career and exposes them to some of the basic math that you must use daily in construction.

Groundbreaking Construction Career Center- Nic

“Construction of the new ministry headquarters is targeted for a 2018 completion, with excavation beginning in August 2017. The two-story building will be 40,905 square feet and includes office, studio, and warehouse space. The new ministry headquarters will also house a fitness center, resource shop, and mission museum. River Street Architecture of Chattanooga has completed architectural plans and P&C Construction of Chattanooga will serve as the general contractor on the project.”

Harrison Elementary Career Day- Jordan

Jordan always enjoys spending time engaging with local youth. Here he is speaking to students at a Harrison Career day about the benefits of joining the construction industry and the long term career opportunities that come with it. We also played some fun games with the kids to challenge their imaginations.

Nic Cornelison has a passion for construction. He wants to see others love it as much as he does. He knows that strong leadership along with confidence backed by knowledge and experience will create a bright future. He invests time and resources into developing future construction professionals through great partnerships such as the AGC, Chattanooga State and the new Construction Career Center.

Having grown up in the construction industry Jordan has a great passion for all things construction. Starting as a laborer and working his way up he has a great appreciation for the need for a new generation of workforce coming onboard. Most important is to continue building with Honesty and Integrity!

Paris Cornelison

As a young woman aspiring in construction, Paris Cornelison loves speaking to girls and women about joining the trades and staying in the trades. She feels it is important to show the females that they too can join the trades and succeed. Doing this helps workforce development  and the confidence of young adolescents to join the trades!
